“The idea of Alex Turner forsaking the Artic Monkeys to start a ska-punk band might send shivers down a few spines, but the reality might not be too hideous, if Becks and the Bullets are anything to go by.
A bunch of keen Yorkshire folk playing jazzy,brass-heavy pop and punkish pop-rock,The Bullets are headed by Becky Roberts. The singer-guitarist seems to fancy herself as a female equivalent of the Monkeys frontman, penning tracks that examine the minutiae of small-town life with a precise eye.Judging by their material so far Becks and the Bullets are worth keeping an eye on.
Mind you, they’re not an act you’d take your mother to see. Check out Girl packs more innuendo into a five-minute pop song than you’d expect to find in an entire Carry On Film, and Roger is Fantastic ( even though he’s made of plastic) is a filthy ode to a woman’s best friend that would make many an indie boy blush.
It’s not all sauce, though; Our Last Waltz is an insightful look at break-ups, while Time captures the excitement and frustrations of a night on the town in a way that Turner would be proud of, only with added ska action. And is that really such a bad thing?”

“If Blondie had kids to Ian Dury and the Blockheads and those kids grew up in Sheffield next door to Pulp until Ian cheated on Debs and ran off to Jamaica with soul II soul leaving Blondie to join a travelling hippy circus and those kids formed a band the band would probably sound like ….becks and the bullets”
